As I am sitting her writing, it is snowing outside. Yes, snowing in the middle of April. So, I am thankful for books and that we have access to hundreds of books through our local library and also billions of books through interlibrary loan.
This morning we've read "Daniel Visits the Library," "Gossie &Gertie" and listened to the CD and looked at the pictures of "Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin with Me." A couple of months back I was reading a blog that mentioned the Little People, Big Dreams Series of books by the Quarto Publishing group. We were able to check out some of this series through interlibrary loan. This is a series that I wish I knew about earlier. As a teacher and a mom I like that this series sets the stage for their first readings of biographies. Kids get to learn about other people, having a window to their lives, through books. There are great pictures and information that is geared just right for the books' audience. The My first Little People series, the ones with the colored spines on board book pages, has just the right amount of pages to keep toddlers interest. The Little People, Big Dreams with the the black spines and the children's book paper pages are great for kids ages 4-7. Here's The Little People, Big Dreams website: https://littlepeoplebigdreams.com/about/
Like Oprah says, "It's never too early to introduce youngsters to inspiring people who have changed the world."
Other activities you can do alongside these books:
-go to a museum and talk about history.
-sing "God's Got the Whole World in His Hands."
-sing "This Little Light of Mine."
-play dress-up pretending to be different people.
Books we've enjoyed in this series:
"Maya"
"Amelia" and "Amelia Earhart."
"Jane"
